Baía dos Náufragos

Baía dos Náufragos is a small bay with some interesting route, both sport and trad. A secluded place with a great cobble beach (malhada). Esquina do Vento is a small sector developed by Paulo Roxo and others between 1998 and 1999. Many years later, a rockfall on the left side of the sector destroyed the route “Diedro Finisterra – 6c,” revealing a new overhanging face. On this newly exposed wall, Nuno Pinheiro bolted a sport route—currently a project for future generations, still awaiting its first free ascent. Via da Pirolita is a great sport route that surely deserves to be climbed more often. Gozzi is great to bring someone to get acquainted to the cliffs at Cabo da Roca. Placa Central offers some low angle cracks and Garfields dihedral is a great testpiece to train you onsight game.

HOW TO GET THERE

From Cascais or Sintra, head toward Cabo da Roca via EN 247. When you reach Estrada do Cabo da Roca, just before Azóia village, turn left onto road marked by a sign for "Café/Bar D. Quixote". Turn left again passing by an old abandoned football field (on your right), then take the left road and follow the directions to "Casa da Pirolita". Park at a large parking area near Casa da Pirolita and follow by foot on a trail that starts on the right side of the gate of Casa da Pirolita along the property wall. Go down until you reach a headland with a good view and continue going down a trail that leads north. The trail goes down and takes you to the top of the bay.
