Praia Louriçal
Located just south below the Cabo da Roca viewpoint, this is the westernmost climbing sector in continental Europe. Despite the large number of tourists at the Cabo da Roca tourism office, restaurant, and viewpoint, tranquility returns further down at Praia do Louriçal.
At Pedra da Azoia, you’ll find the route ROCA, a fully bolted line and the westernmost route in continental Europe. Several other routes on this sector are also worth climbing. Voo do Mandarim and Placa do Sol are fantastic climbs that saw quick repeats after their first ascents and deserve more attention.
For those interested in bouldering, the chaos of boulders north of Pedra da Azoia offers excellent problems on bulletproof granite.
HOW TO GET THERE
Drive and park in the lot near the Cabo da Roca tourism office.
APPROACH
From the viewpoint (cross), walk south down the trail frequented by tourists taking pictures. Continue descending, passing a waterline, until you reach Malhada do Louriçal—a beach of large pebbles, also known as Praia do Louriçal.

Other comments
Pay close attention to the tides when accessing Pedra da Azoia to ensure safe entry and exit. To reach the top, walk up the ramp and follow the path on the north side. There is a thick fisherman’s rope available for use—exercise caution if you choose to use it.
Choose calm-water days for climbing or bouldering, as waves can crash against the base of the routes and boulders.
