Tornadinho

The cliffs below Biscaia (Ultramar, Ponta do Assobio, Figueira do Guincho) were among the last to be explored at Cabo da Roca. Fernando Pereira is undoubtedly the leading figure in these recent explorations. Together with climbers such as João Gaspar, Nuno Pinheiro, Timóteo Mendes, Dulce Godinho, António Afonso, and António Vale — and sometimes solo — Fernando brought to life many routes and adventures for us to enjoy.

This sector features climbs scattered along the coves of Ponta do Assobio. One route, Via da Mesa Posta, has an amusing story: when attempting the climb during rising tide, a makeshift wooden structure resembling a table was built from sticks and wood found on the beach to create a dry belay stance. As the tide rose, this “table” soon became a raft, floating away with the waves.
