Praia Grande
On the south side of Praia Grande begin the cliffs of Cabo da Roca. A staircase leads to the top of the cliff, where dinosaur footprints can be observed. At the base of these stairs, further south around the corner, three large cracks and a thinner crack on another wall were climbed in the 1980s by climbers such as Fanã, Rogério Morais, José Luis Carvalho, and Pedro Cid, among others. The mentioned routes are known as Fendas Oeste and Parede Norte.
These routes have been rarely repeated, mainly due to the quality of the limestone, frequent beachgoers, and the nearby dinosaur footprints—which are now a protected site.
Nearby, atop the cliff, the route Fissura Z, opened in the 1990s by Sérgio Bruno, shows that good climbs can be found where least expected. Climbers with keen eyes may discover more lines on these cliffs in the future.
